Statement of Professional Philosophy
My personal philosophy of librarianship is based around the main goal of accessibility. I want to make sure that in my professional practice, I prioritize accessibility for all patrons, regardless of financial status or ability. This encompasses accessibility of information, as well as accessibility of the physical library space.
As a youth librarian, I want to be someone my patrons remember for years after I teach them. As an instructor, it is difficult to address the challenge posed in most learning environments: how can I assure that the diverse needs of my patrons are met? Though it is impossible to meet the needs of 100% of patrons, 100% of the time, using strategies such as the Universal Design for Learning guidelines and leadership theories of educators that have led with empathy can help provide a framework for meeting the needs of as many community members as possible.
I am dedicated to the idea of teaching responsible digital citizenship and information literacy; this is becoming increasingly important among the mis- and dis-information in today’s world.
